Job Summary:
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Educator to join our team in a Catholic school setting. As a Designated Early Childhood Educator, you will play a vital role in providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to create a warm and positive learning environment that reflects the Catholic values of our school board.
- Implement the Kindergarten Program by planning and delivering daily play and inquiry-based learning opportunities that promote the holistic development of children.
- Follow the Kindergarten Program and other relevant documents developed by the Program Department, Ministry of Education, and Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
- Provide positive social and emotional learning experiences that strengthen pro-social skill development, including sharing, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and cooperation.
- Work with school resource staff and Board and community resource and support services staff to support the needs of diverse learners, including students requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Ensure the activities required for project-based emergent curriculum and/or best practices are created, maintained, and utilized.
- Observe, monitor, record, and assess students using various documentation methods, including developmental checklists, anecdotal reports, and portfolios.
- Contribute to the completion of the initial Observation and the Kindergarten Communication of Learning.
- Organize field trips and supervise students while on field trips.
- Participate in the preparation and supervision of the classroom and playground areas.
- Provide guidance and assistance to children with self-care, washroom routines, dressing, lunchtime, and other nutritional activities and needs.
- Participate in family/educator communications regarding student assessments.
- Respond to difficult situations and take appropriate action in stressful or emergent situations according to Board policies and procedures.
- Observe Health and Safety Standards.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with other community services providers working with children as directed by the Principal and/or designate.
- Provide guidance to families, supply staff, students, and volunteers with respect to program planning, childcare, and community resources.
- Communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with students, families, and the general public on pertinent information.
- Maintain confidentiality, including but not limited to staff, student, and family information.
- Maintain appropriate records for students, including health, attendance, etc.
- Attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings, and professional development activities as required.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (E.C.E.).
- Registered Member, in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Catholic Pastoral Reference (dated within the last 12 months).
Experience:
- Minimum three years' experience working as an Early Childhood Educator.
- Experience in planning and implementing developmentally age-appropriate programs.
- Experience in working with various outreach and community development programs is an asset.
- Experience working in a school system is an asset.
