Job Title: Specialist, Orientation and Mobility

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialist, Orientation and Mobility to join our team at Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada. As a key member of our rehabilitation team, you will work closely with individuals who are blind or partially sighted, providing personalized orientation and mobility training to help them develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate their daily lives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify individual needs and goals
  • Develop and implement personalized orientation and mobility plans
  • Provide expert training and guidance on cane techniques, travel skills, and environmental analysis
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and community partners to ensure seamless care and support
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
Requirements:
  • Graduate of the Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired Program (Mohawk College) or Diploma in Specialized Studies, O&M and Vision Rehabilitation (University of Montreal)
  • ACVREP Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
