Job Title: Intermediate Piping Engineer

Equinox Engineering Ltd. is a leading EPCM firm based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We specialize in oil and gas processing, with a focus on facilities design, implementation, and operational assistance for natural gas, conventional oil, heavy oil, and carbon capture projects.

Job Summary:

The Intermediate Piping Engineer will support and execute all aspects of Piping Engineering activities within the department. This role ensures that all Piping Engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization's established objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with the Piping Engineering team across our global offices, including Canada, Australia, USA, and India.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute deliverables for piping design, specification, and installation.
  • Support the development of junior piping engineers.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of Piping Engineering deliverables.
  • Support the effective use of global workshare to meet corporate requirements.
  • Assist in leading and executing project deliverables, including piping specifications, line designation tables, isometric and general arrangement drawings, material requisitions, and specialty item specifications.
  • Contribute to project documentation, including DBM's, execution plans, manhour estimates, and scopes of work.
  • Identify and coordinate stress engineering requirements related to piping design.
  • Work closely with the Piping Design Drafting department to ensure efficient delivery of optimized piping arrangements.
  • Contribute to model reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% design stages, working closely with the Piping Design and Drafting department to ensure readily identifiable optimizations are incorporated prior to client review.
  • Support the development and implementation of Piping Engineering procedures and standards.
  • Liaise with Stress, Mechanical, Supply Chain, and Project Management.
  • Field review of piping system installations, as-building piping systems as required.
  • Coordinate and respond to RFI's related to piping systems.
  • Review and manage Client requirements and expectations.
  • Support the development and implementation of project specifications.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Health and Safety program.
Key Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to execute efficiently on small to medium-sized projects.
  • Experience in contributing to multi-discipline teams.
  • Familiarity with pressure piping systems, designing to ASME B31.3, B31.1, B31.4, and B 31.8.
  • Working knowledge of CSA Z662 above-ground piping design.
  • Awareness of metallurgy and materials selection practices for corrosive and elevated temperature piping systems.
  • Exposure to welding procedures, procedure qualification, and NDE methodology.
  • Experience with pressure piping applications to ABSA, TSASK, and TSBC is considered an asset.
  • Design experience working with boiler and steam piping systems is considered an asset.
  • Ability to effectively resolve interdisciplinary issues or concerns that arise within a team environment.
  • Broad exposure to natural gas, conventional oil, and heavy oil facility design and construction.
  • Familiarity with materials requisitions and supply chain management systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Pipeline Engineering is considered an asset.
Education & Qualifications:
  • A Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) within the province of Alberta.
  • A Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering degree.
  • Minimum 5+ years of oil and gas experience with minimum 3 years recent EPCM experience, focused on mechanical and piping engineering.
  • Experience in CAD and 3D piping modeling is considered an asset.
