Job Description

The primary responsibility of a Content Editor is to review and edit content for publication. This includes evaluating the suitability of material, making decisions on significance, and planning the layout or format according to space or time allocations.

  • Evaluate the suitability of material for publication, broadcast, or publication on the internet
  • Make decisions on the significance of copy and what to implement
  • Plan the layout or format of copy according to space or time allocations
  • Publish text for distribution
  • Detect and correct errors in spelling, grammar, and syntax
  • Shorten or lengthen copy as needed
  • Plan coverage of upcoming events and assign work accordingly
  • Negotiate royalties with authors and initiate payments to freelance staff
  • Confer with authors, staff writers, reporters, and others regarding revisions to copy
  • Plan and coordinate activities of staff to ensure production deadlines are met
  • Write or prepare introductions, marketing, and promotional materials, bibliographic references, indexes, and other text
Required Skills and Qualifications
