The ideal candidate will have a strong background in event management, with experience in supervising teams, leading staff recruitment, training, development, and performance management. They will also have a proven track record of developing and implementing successful event programming and production strategies that attract residents and visitors.

  • Lead the team in developing and implementing city-produced event programming and production that attract residents and visitors twelve months a year;
  • Secure performance opportunities for concerts, festivals, and special events;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with performer agents, promoters, festival organizers, venue owners, and other industry stakeholders;
  • Negotiate contracts and competitive performance fees;
  • Coordinate with performers' managers and event organizers to handle logistical details;
  • Understand and keep up with industry trends to identify potential booking opportunities;
  • Collaborate with the marketing and promotions team to ensure maximum visibility for upcoming events;
  • Organize regular meetings with key internal stakeholders to support the successful implementation of programming and events;
  • Develop and implement an annual work plan and operating plans; Contribute to the development of multi-year business plans;
  • Develop innovative partnerships with private sector partners and cultural organizations to continuously improve the quality and profile of city-produced events and activities;
  • Develop and maintain risk assessments and security plans for events;
  • Work with the divisional marketing team to develop annual communications plans;
  • Oversee the administration of contracts and booking agreements for performers;
  • Prepare and present annual reports on the performance of Celebration Square events and activities based on performance metrics that are outlined in the annual business plan for the Square (i.e., attendance, customer satisfaction, and budget performance);
  • Manage budgets and ensure that event operations are delivered on-time and on-budget; Prepare quarterly updates on budgets and manage expense adjustments to ensure on-budget year-end performance;
  • Ensure the successful implementation of event and naming rights sponsorships for presents series and events;
  • Liaise and meet with elected officials as required;
  • Ensure due diligence is carried out in all areas of risk management and safety training;
  • Actively participate in the Manager on Duty schedule;
  • Participate on Corporate, Departmental, and Division Working Groups, Committees, or Special Projects as required;
  • Prepare corporate reports, recommendations, and updates for the Manager, Director, Commissioner, and Council on various topics or issues as required;
  • Instill a culture of compliance, accountability, continuous improvement, and efficiency;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
