Job Summary:
Industrial Light & Magic is seeking a skilled Creature Modeler to join our team. As a key member of our creature development team, you will be responsible for creating three-dimensional computer-generated characters that will be painted, enveloped, and animated by our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create three-dimensional creatures for our animators and technical directors, utilizing specific software tools to build the geometric structure of the object and ensuring that the model meets the requirements of the production.
- Incorporate technical expertise, artistic ability, and a basic understanding of animation into your work, as you build creatures that meet the needs of our production team.
- Work closely with our production team, including senior modelers, technical directors, and animators, to identify the desired look for an object and ensure that it meets our high standards.
- Build the geometry of computer graphic models, with a deep understanding of how the geometry will be used in the production process.
- Perform other tasks related to the creation of computer-generated animation, as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or equivalent, with a thorough understanding of anatomy, character design, and animation.
- Portfolio demonstrating traditional artistic skills, including illustration and sculptural abilities.
- Proven experience creating digital creatures or characters in a feature film or production environment.
- Familiarity with film and video post-production techniques and computer graphic techniques.
- 2-3 years of experience with Zbrush, Maya, and facial development, or a demonstrated desire to develop computer skills.
- Knowledge of UNIX is necessary to navigate through our production pipeline.
Compensation:
The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$84,100 to C$107,700 per year, based on a 40-hour work week. The actual base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
