About the Role

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Plasma Operations team in Lethbridge. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in advancing our strategy to secure a domestic supply of plasma for immune globulin.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the local team in promoting and contributing to a collaborative and donor-centric work environment. You will leverage your excellent communication skills to participate in all aspects of the donor experience, including welcoming donors, completing eligibility screening, and supporting the collection of plasma during the donation process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in all aspects of the donor experience, including welcoming donors, completing eligibility screening, and supporting the collection of plasma during the donation process.
  • Provide donors with information, instruction, and advice on plasma donation and other ways to contribute to Canada's Lifeline.
  • Utilize your knowledge and experience to provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff and support donor education.
  • Work in a diverse team environment assisting in the collection of plasma, including performing venipuncture according to established standards and completing multiple processes within the Centre that require strong communication.
  • Ensure completeness of information in multiple systems and processes, including screening and collection, storage of products, preparation of samples for testing, and packaging products for shipment.
  • Contribute to the framework of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice standards with the team.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province.
  • 2 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse is considered an asset, as is a certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
  • A second language is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience.

Work Environment

Shifts/hours will vary, and you must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs).
