Job Title: Anishinaabe Student Success and Cultural Program Coordinator

Algoma University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Anishinaabe Student Success and Cultural Program Coordinator. This position will play a key role in developing and implementing programs and services to support the academic success and cultural well-being of Anishinaabe students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement cultural and social events and activities to promote Anishinaabe student success and retention.
  • Collaborate with university departments and community organizations to engage students in academic and support initiatives.
  • Provide academic advising and support to Anishinaabe students, including orientation and advising for First Nation Social Services Administrators' students.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Anishinaabe student organizations and community groups.
  • Supervise student staff, volunteers, and placement students as required.
  • Track receipts and provide recommendations for program and event spending.
Requirements:
  • Certification to facilitate Mental Health First Aid, suicide prevention, and restorative practice with Anishinaabe populations.
  • Strong background with and knowledge of Anishinaabe organizations.
  • Lived experience with Anishinaabe culture and community, with demonstrated knowledge of Anishinaabe ways of knowing, understanding, and being.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary environment is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
