Job Description

The Instrumentation and Controls Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Anaerobic Digester facility at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, servicing, and calibrating various instruments within the facility, as well as adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and permitting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation and controls systems to ensure optimal facility performance.
  • Perform regular calibration and maintenance of instruments and sensors to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation and controls issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and maintenance personnel to ensure seamless operation of the facility.
  • Develop and implement procedures to improve instrumentation and controls performance and efficiency.
  • Participate in on-call duties and respond to emergencies as required.
Requirements:
  • Apprenticeship certification and/or an inter-provincial Journeyman Instrumentation and Controls Technician trade certificate.
  • Minimum of two years' related-industry experience and completion of apprenticeship certification.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an asset.
  • Previous experience in an industrial process plant environment is an asset.
  • Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven organizational and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate-level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, and Word).
Work Environment:

The Instrumentation and Controls Technician will work in a fast-paced industrial environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and physical demands. The position requires the ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and with hazardous materials. The technician must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Working Hours:

The regular hours of work for this position are based on a 40-hour work week, with evenings, nights, and weekends as required. The technician is required to perform on-call duties and may be required to work pre-authorized overtime.
