Chief Engineer Job Description

West Coast Reduction Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Chief Engineer to oversee the maintenance and operation of our steam plant systems and equipment. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facilities, adhering to Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) regulations, and providing leadership to our steam engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain all steam plant equipment, ensuring boilers and pressure parts comply with ABSA and WCRL standards.
  • Develop and execute daily operating plans, including maintenance work orders for the steam plant, waste water, air compression, fire suppression, and air pollution departments.
  • Manage and schedule steam plant shift operators, and coordinate safety testing and maintenance schedules.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment and process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system and equipment issues to achieve manufacturing objectives.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and employee performance management of steam engineers.
  • Maintain liaison with site management, procurement, maintenance, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and long-term planning processes to ensure department reliability and compliance.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean abstract.
  • Valid Class 2 Power Engineering Certificate.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in plant operation, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental compliance, people management, and administration.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams, schematic drawings, and manuals.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance.
