Job Title: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lifeguard/Swim Instructor to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Vancouver. As a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for providing a safe and fun aquatics environment for our members and participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guarding and teaching swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner
  • Building meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues
  • Promoting philanthropy through the YMCA's annual Strong Kids Campaign
  • Developing lesson plans for various programs and administering progressive evaluations for participants
  • Ensuring program design, layout, and offerings meet the needs of all participants at various levels
  • Leading program delivery, while ensuring contents meet the appropriate criteria and outline
  • Performing general administrative duties and record-keeping responsibilities
  • Ensuring the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff, including all locker rooms and spectator viewing areas
  • Assisting with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices
  • Remaining flexible – willing to learn new skills, alter shifts
  • Attending staff meetings, planning sessions, and training events as required

Requirements:

  • Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)
  • CPR level C and AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
  • National Lifeguard - Pool Option
  • Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent
  • Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferred
  • YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle
  • Advanced leadership courses are an asset
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • 3 professional references
