Job Summary

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA) is seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to join our team. As a Paralegal, you will play a critical role in supporting our members by providing expert advice and guidance on various legal matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management: Assist in the preparation of case file reviews for various tribunals, including the Ontario College of Teachers, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Tribunal, and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
  • Advocacy and Support: Provide support to In-house Legal Counsel in the preparation of case file reviews and assist in the management of member files.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analysis to support the preparation of case file reviews and provide recommendations to In-house Legal Counsel.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Develop and maintain strong relationships with members, colleagues, and external stakeholders through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
  • Education: Paralegal Diploma and License in Good Standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a related field, preferably with WSIB/WSIAT, regulatory bodies, and/or other tribunals.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and related legislation, as well as medical and legal terminology related to workplace insurance matters.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office/Office 365.
  • Personal Qualities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond to contentious issues with sensitivity, confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
