Job Summary

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to senior clients under the direction of the Program Supervisor and/or Registered Kinesiologist associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead fitness classes for senior clients.
  • Work with clients to achieve their fitness goals.
  • Participate in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery.
  • Attend educational in-services as required.
  • Provide fall prevention education as directed.
  • Report any incidents or concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Ensure timely reporting of incidents in accordance with legislation and VON policies.
  • Report any equipment defects that may pose a risk.
Education and Experience
  • High school graduate.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
  • Experience working in an assisted living environment is an asset.

  • Dependability and trustworthiness.
  • Good communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in unexpected situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

The Fitness Instructor will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and may be required to lift and carry equipment. The ability to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs is also required.
