The Role

We are seeking a Summer Law and Policy Associate to contribute to various law and policy projects between May and August 2025, depending on their availability and areas of interest. We prefer applicants enrolled in law school; however, undergraduate or graduate students with prior work experience or academic interests in public policy will also be considered.

This position is flexible and well-suited for law students looking for part-time work to complement travel plans or other pursuits during the summer. The successful candidate can set their own hours, provided agreed-upon deliverables are met. There may be occasional opportunities to attend virtual client meetings or qualitative research interviews if that is of interest.

Part-time employment during the school year may also be available for the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative policy research, including jurisdictional scans, literature reviews, qualitative interviews with policy experts, and basic statistical analysis.
  • Conduct legal research in the areas of labour, employment, human rights, constitutional, or administrative law.
  • Contribute to various publications, blog posts, and articles.
  • Monitor law and policy developments relevant to Cave Law's practice areas.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in social science, economics, or a related discipline.
  • Completion of a minimum of one year of coursework in the Juris Doctor program is preferred.
  • A graduate degree in public policy, public administration, social science, economics, or a related discipline is an asset.
  • Coursework in labour, employment, human rights, constitutional, or administrative law is an asset.
  • Prior policy work experience in government, a non-profit organization, or a policy thinktank is an asset.
  • General familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods and how they are applied in a policy research environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Effective project management skills, including the ability to deliver projects on accelerated timelines when required.
  • Comfortable working in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Pro, as well as various technology tools such as Calendly, Doodle, and Zoom.
  • Ability to work remotely and independently and balance competing priorities.
Compensation and Benefits

The successful candidate will be compensated $35/hour. Work hours between May and August 2025 will be negotiated with the successful candidate depending on interest and availability.
