Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, responding to inquiries, and addressing concerns in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Assist with animal care duties, including cleaning, feeding, and providing enrichment activities for our animals.
  • Participate in adoption matchmaking, working with potential adopters to find the perfect match for their lifestyle and preferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the smooth operation of our shelter, including intake, reclaim, lost/found, and animal care duties.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of animal behavior, body language, and welfare to provide expert advice to visitors and colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of programs and services that promote animal welfare and adoption.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Minimum one year of experience working in a fast-paced customer service role, preferably in an animal-related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, body language, and welfare, with a passion for promoting animal welfare and adoption.
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
Work Environment:

The Animal Care Specialist will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with regular exposure to animals, including cats, dogs, small animals, reptiles, fish, and wildlife. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a shelter environment, with occasional exposure to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals, as well as common allergens and unpleasant odors.
