Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Power Engineer 3 to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our Plant Services and Construction department, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation of our power plant, supervising a team of Power Engineers, and providing input into administrative functions such as budget preparation and policy formulation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Monitor expenditures for Plant Operations and make recommendations regarding budget. Authorize and order minor equipment within budgetary parameters.
  2. Supervise designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments. Evaluate employees' performance and determine related training and orientation requirements.
  3. Operate steam and heating boilers/air conditioning systems by starting up and shutting down boilers and related pumps, fans, air compressors, steam expansion joints; monitor and adjust temperature control system, pressure and feed water levels.
  4. Monitor and adjust chemical treatment systems and analyze chemical formulas.
  5. Monitor adherence to the Preventative Maintenance Program by ensuring staff carry out preventative maintenance on equipment and fixtures such as pumps, fans, air compressors, steam expansion joints.
  6. Test and maintain auxiliary power generators and repair/adjust as required.
  7. Monitor and adjust physical plant and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems by operating a variety of mechanical, pneumatic and/or electronic control systems.
  8. Perform analysis on boiler systems such as combustion analysis, water treatment analysis and steam efficiency analysis.
  9. Answer service and emergency calls, assess and perform repairs required and call in appropriate staff for skilled journeyman work as required.
  10. Ensure compliance with various codes and regulations by providing direction in relation to plant safety to all staff working within the power plant.
Qualifications

Certificate of competency as a 3rd Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C. Five years' recent related experience including one year in a supervisory position or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to supervise.
