About the Role:

The University of Waterloo is seeking a highly skilled Marketing and Communications Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing integrated internal and external communications strategies to promote the university's brand and engage with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications plan to foster increased information sharing amongst staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an effective external communications program to support the engagement of a wide range of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Conduct research and interviews, write, and edit compelling copy for marketing collateral that supports strategic initiatives.
  • Establish a strategy for a meaningful social media presence using a variety of platforms and showcase graduate research and alumni achievements.
  • Provide strategic oversight on the use of digital communications to engage the internal and external community, including alumni, using a variety of tools such as web, social media, video, digital signage, and emerging platforms.
  • Liaise with the Faculty of Engineering's Advancement and Outreach to identify goals and strategies to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Support and publicize annual and special events for undergraduate and graduate programs, including research and industry guest speakers' seminars.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Communications, English, Marketing, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a marketing and/or communications role, experience in an educational setting considered an asset.
  • Experience developing marketing and communication strategies.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment marketing and enrollment management principles.
  • Excellent promotional/persuasive writing and storytelling abilities with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Excellent understanding of English grammar.
  • Experience with a content management system and best practices for web writing.
  • Experience with providing excellent customer service.
  • Familiarity with social media (video creation considered an asset).
  • Ability to build consensus and foster teamwork among a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation abilities (preparation and delivery).
