Maintaining Campus Facilities: A Part-Time Opportunity

We are currently seeking part-time Custodians to establish a pool of qualified candidates for various current and future opportunities at York University. These positions involve providing cleaning services 24/7 in different classifications, up to a maximum of 24 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the general cleanliness of public circulating areas throughout the campus.
  • Clean and sanitize public washrooms, including fixtures and surfaces.
  • Perform spot washing of walls and remove any stubborn stains.
  • Remove garbage and recyclable materials from classrooms, computer labs, lecture halls, and hallways.
  • Reconfigure classrooms and lecture hall furniture as needed.
  • Wipe clean whiteboards and chalkboards.
  • Mop floors to pick up spills and remove salt from building entrances.
  • Wipe clean glass partitions and entrance glasses.
  • Clean elevator walls and remove any dirt or grime.
  • Pick up floods if called upon to do so.
  • Remove posters from walls and use auto scrubbers to clean corridors.
  • Clean main stairwells and ensure they are free of debris.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • In Housing assignments, clean apartments/unit between tenancies.

Requirements:

  • Ability to operate and use custodial equipment such as polishers, shampoo equipment, ladders, carts, hand trucks, wet and dry vacuum, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak, read, write, comprehend, and sustain conversations in English.

The estimated salary for this position is $18-$22 per hour, based on industry standards and the location of York University in Toronto.
