Job Overview

The Financial Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless management of student financial transactions at The University of British Columbia. This position requires a high level of expertise, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to provide top-notch service to students, faculty, and staff.

About the Role

This specialist will be responsible for independently providing complex information and direction to various clients regarding tuition refunds, assessments, UPass administration, and UBC payments and collections. Key duties include applying payments to student tuition accounts, initiating or approving refund requests, processing UPass exemptions, and collecting outstanding tuition accounts.

Main Responsibilities
  • Apply payments to student tuition accounts and initiate or approve refund requests
  • Process UPass exemption applications and communicate with students and staff regarding tuition and fee-related matters
  • Maintain accurate records and reconcile tuition and fee payments in Workday
  • Prepare cheques for courier to RBC when needed and process USD cheques for deposit
  • Adjust student accounts for NSF cheques/EFT and assess NSF charges
  • Approve and process all refunds on Workday and monitor failed refunds for reprocessing

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need a minimum of four years of related experience, including two years of post-secondary education. You must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to interpret and apply complex guidelines and regulations. Excellent communication and organizational skills are also essential, along with a working knowledge of university financial and student systems, policies, and procedures.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience. Additionally, you can expect a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
