Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Pipe Fabrication Specialist to join our team at Johnson Controls.

About the Role

This is a year-round, indoor position in Edmonton, requiring the ability to work with tools and lift objects up to 50 lbs for 50 feet. The successful candidate will have a strong background in pipe fitting and fabrication, with experience in welding, threading, and testing piping systems.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and install piping/equipment supports, brackets, guides.
  • Fit up and prepare piping requiring welded joints.
  • Liaise and collaborate with other trades to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Repair plumbing systems, hydronic heating systems, and perform filter changes on hydronic heating systems, control air, and air-handling units.
  • Provide guidance to junior tradespeople, including training and mentorship.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout requirements.
  • Measure, cut, and thread pipes to required shape using hand and power tools.
  • Weld, tack, and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping systems.
  • Install supports, valves, and piping.
  • Test system for leaks using testing equipment.
  • Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush systems.
  • Remove and replace worn components and reactivate systems.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire Limited Partnership safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Code.

Requirements

  • Steamfitter – Pipefitter Red Seal Certificate preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Journeyman Pipefitter or equivalent.
  • First-aid certification is an asset.
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license.
  • Receptive to change and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.
  • Respect diversity and treat others with respect.
  • Avoid unnecessary conflict.

Working Conditions

  • Year-round work (not seasonal).
  • Indoor and in-town work.
  • Job requires ability to work with tools.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 50 lbs for 50 feet is required.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g., hard-hat, safety boots, etc.).
  • Hazards associated with the industry.

Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
