Job Summary

The Logistics and 3PL Manager will oversee the movement of goods, services, and control of import/export transactions, and operational accountability for 3PL in several locations worldwide. This role will be responsible for supervising and people management to ensure the smooth operation of logistics and 3PL activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transportation Coordination: Oversee transportation activities, including route planning, carrier selection, and freight negotiation, to ensure products are delivered on time while minimizing costs and adhering to regulations.
  • EDI and Retail Account Management: Understand, manage, and provide EDI support to the logistics team and sales. Interact with sales and IT to set up new accounts and manage existing ones.
  • 3PL Management: Manage day-to-day responsibilities of 3PL, including order fulfillment, tracking performance, reviewing and confirming 3PL invoices for approval, and resolving customer care and sales issues with 3PL.
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to gauge logistics performance. Utilize data and metrics for identifying improvement areas and implementing necessary corrective measures.
  • Compliance and Regulations: Ensure adherence to relevant customs, transportation, and safety regulations. Stay abreast of industry changes to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
  • People Management: Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team. Conduct annual evaluations and assessments to align with business objectives. Facilitate onboarding, training, and equipping team members to meet expectations. Provide coaching and guidance in various situations. Cultivate a collaborative and results-oriented work environment within the team and across operational stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives for ongoing process optimization, cost reduction, and enhanced logistics efficiency. Promote innovation and creative problem-solving to address logistics challenges.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential supply chain risks and develop contingency plans for mitigation. Proactively manage issues such as inventory shortages and transportation delays.
  • Management: Develop and oversee logistics budgets, monitor expenses, and identify opportunities for cost savings and avoidance. Implement strategies to optimize spending while maintaining quality and service levels. Manage and prioritize work activities to meet customer demands and special projects as required.
  • Operational Accountability: Ensure all inbound and outbound shipments from 3PL partners in Canada, the US, and Europe meet expectations and customer commitments.
  • Vendor Negotiation: Engage in negotiations with carriers, forwarders, and customs brokers to optimize service agreements and costs.
  • Customer Demand Management: Prioritize and coordinate work activities to meet customer demands and special projects. Ensure that shipments are delivered on time and in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in a logistics/EDI/3PL environment with similar experiences required.
  • Minimum of 5 years as People Leader or Supervisor position in a production environment, leading non-unionized employees.
  • College or Bachelor degree in operations/purchasing or a similar program.
  • Results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to practice empathy.
  • Must be willing to work as a member of a team and be flexible in undertaking a variety of duties that will contribute to the success of the organization.
  • Eager to learn new processes/systems and be proactive in continuous improvement.
  • Strong information seeking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven track record in developing employees to attain higher performance standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and computer literacy.
