Family Counsellor Job Description

Are you a seasoned mental health professional dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children, youth, and families? Do you want to work in a role that has a profound community impact while being backed by a supportive employer?

As a Family Counsellor at Alberta Health Services, you will play a key role in the Youth Community Support Program, a cross-ministry initiative that provides a step-down service for youth and their families exiting acute inpatient mental health settings or formal treatment environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care for children, adolescents, and their families within the Program, including assessments and group/individual treatment
  • Intervene and support the planning, implementation, and management of mental health services
  • Offer comprehensive clinical services, including assessment, therapy, referral to other resources, and liaison with hospital and community services
  • Conduct system-based assessments and family therapy treatment
  • Manage and coordinate therapeutic services for program clients and their families
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a health-related field
  • Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in community mental health settings providing MH treatment to children, youth, and their families with complex mental health issues
  • Experience providing expert clinical consultation to professionals
  • Knowledge of community resources for children and adolescents
