Job Summary:

The Paint Superintendent at Heddle Shipyards is responsible for planning, prioritizing, and directing the work of the paint team. This role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee multiple projects and their work scopes, balancing manpower, equipment, and other resources between projects based on factors such as project priorities/deadlines, inter-trade scheduling of work, and weather conditions.
  • Work closely with the Project Management team to offer feedback on the planning/scheduling of work, manpower requirements, equipment requirements, and safety requirements.
  • Communicate with internal/external stakeholders such as Production, Project Management, clients, subcontractors, inspectors, etc.
  • Record and track weather and/or atmospheric conditions.
  • Prepare project quality documents, inspection and test plans, and procedures.
  • Oversee daily inspection of coating activities and monitor overcoat windows.
  • Maintain equipment used for coating work.
  • Control and maintain paint supply inventory.
  • Manage proper waste disposal for the paint department.
  • Manage the performance of direct reports.
  • Work with HR to correct attendance issues/patterns.
  • Develop skillsets and job knowledge, identify key performers, and recommend promotions/increases in responsibilities.
  • Attend and participate in supervisor meetings, providing progress reports on projects, bringing up safety issues/concerns, and providing manpower surpluses/deficits.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience as a coatings manager.
  • 5+ years experience working in the Marine industry.
  • NACE Level 2 or European Equivalent (i.e. FROSIO).
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
