Job Summary

The British Columbia Institute of Technology is seeking a skilled Plumber to join our team. As a key member of our Campus Planning and Facilities department, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our water, gas, drainage, air, heating systems, and backflow prevention assemblies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls and take corrective action to resolve issues with our systems.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans to ensure our systems are running efficiently and effectively.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on our systems, including printing schedules, identifying deficiencies, and taking corrective action.
  • Estimate labor and materials for renovations, upgrades, and projects, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Communicate with various departments and external contractors to ensure seamless collaboration and customer satisfaction.
  • Stay up-to-date with advances in system and equipment design, and adapt older systems to work with new components and parts.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
  • Prepare and complete work orders, including clearing stoppages, repairing and replacing fixtures and fittings, and performing minor cutting and drilling.
  • Responsible for maintaining an inventory of plumbing supplies and operating various lifts to access equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of contractors to ensure adherence to established standards.

Qualifications

  • A valid Trades Qualification or Interprovincial Trades Ticket, plus technical education and/or certifications in the relevant building trades industry.
  • Ability to assess blueprints and make recommendations for specific trade requirements.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve related issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to maintain currency in the field and learn on the job.
  • Basic computer training and experience.
