CNC Set-up Operator Job Description

At ALMAG, we are seeking a highly skilled CNC Set-up Operator to join our Fabrication Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines to produce high-quality finished goods to specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate CNC machines in an efficient and cost-effective manner, ensuring good quality and safety standards.
  • Make adjustments to machining programs as required to meet production needs.
  • Fabricate parts based on fabrication drawings, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Perform daily PM checks to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Follow work order specifications and packing instructions to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
  • Read and follow notes in the computer system (Epics) to stay informed about production schedules and updates.
  • Verify first-piece samples with other plant personnel to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Ensure material identification and work order data accuracy before production.
  • Verify incoming materials meet specifications before proceeding with fabrication.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to ensure prompt maintenance and minimize downtime.
  • Meet on-time order completion deadlines to maintain production schedules.
  • Comply with all quality-related policies, procedures, and system requirements to ensure high-quality products.
  • Operate a forklift (if certified and approved) to assist with tasks and improve efficiency.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma and relevant production experience (desirable).
  • Some education in CNC is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in CNC Set-Up/Machine Operation.

Technical Skills/Competence:

  • Good team building and motivational skills.
  • Strong command of English, written and oral, with the ability to train other employees.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and ability to read drawings.
  • Ability to work well with numbers and maintain accurate records.
  • Solid understanding of CNC machines, precision measuring instruments, and related software (e.g., Mastercam).
  • Experience with Epics (considered an asset).
  • Forklift license (an asset).
