Sixense Northern America excels in designing, installing, maintaining, and operating automated monitoring systems for monumental infrastructure projects across the globe.

Through proprietary software and advanced techniques, we empower engineers to monitor soil and structure behavior during construction phases.

We seek a skilled Instrumentation & Monitoring Technician - Geotechnical to bolster our capacity for deploying structural and geotechnical instrumentation.

The chosen candidate will set up, operate, and maintain monitoring systems with the support of our local team. The position requires working in field and office environments.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and ensure the proper functioning of geotechnical and structural monitoring instruments according to established protocols.
  • Timely assist Engineers and Technicians as required.
  • Contribute to the mobilization, installation, and demobilization of equipment in difficult-to-reach locations.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain instruments in place, possibly at heights, on rails, or during night shifts.

Health & Safety:

  • Active participant in and contributor to Sixense's Health and Safety Program, promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Aware of and adhere to all necessary safe operating procedures prior to task commencement.
  • Report any incidents, infractions, or near misses immediately to the Project Manager and HSE Officer.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil/Geotech preferable) or College Diploma in Civil Engineering/Construction Technician/Technology regarded as beneficial.
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience or training in the installation and maintenance of geotechnical and structural instruments such as piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers, and total stations, including supervising drilling subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of field investigations, including permits and locates, along with varied drilling experience.
  • Valid driver's license (Ontario G Class minimum) with a clean driving record.
  • First aid training completion and/or other industry certifications seen as beneficial.
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook for reporting site construction activities.

Desirable Technical Skills:

  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, moving heavy objects up to 50 pounds, climbing, crawling, and walking on uneven terrain.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical skills valued but not mandatory.

  • Responsible and able to work independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision.
  • Predisposed to working outdoors and traveling between various worksites.
