The Role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in Germany. As a key member of our team, you will lead the mechanical design effort for our marine navigation and bridge systems, ensuring market-leading performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead detailed studies, experiments, research, and tests to contribute to the design and development of navigation and bridge system products.
  • Develop and approve mechanical designs, including COTS, military-grade products, and customized solutions.
  • Write and maintain Company's mechanical engineering standards and best practices.
  • Train and mentor Mechanical Engineers on Company's mechanical standards and best practices.
  • Approve elements of the Company's parts database.
  • Interpret, analyze, and approve hardware requirements, hardware design documents, and ensure the proposed solution meets the stated requirements.
  • Prepare and approve written plans, calculations, designs, specifications, and material lists.
  • Lead and review technical tasks requiring accuracy of calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed methods.
  • Provide design information and guidance to support personnel and suppliers in preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication.
  • Ensure designs meet system, customer, and budgetary requirements and are compliant with industry and government standards.
  • Clearly communicate technical and design documentation to other departments.
  • Optimize mechanical designs for manufacturability, weight, and cost through the application of Engineering expertise and analysis.
  • Work closely with Production to understand, develop, and refine assembly drawings and instructions.
  • Conduct and provide technical support during qualification testing, including thermal cycling, vibration, and shock testing.
  • Design mechanical tests and test fixtures, document and analyze results, and write formal test reports.
  • Initiate and approve engineering change requests.
  • Follow and promote workplace operating and environmental, health, and safety procedures and guidelines.
You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering/Applied Science or equivalent and 12+ years of direct engineering design/analysis experience, including a minimum of 8 years in the naval/subsea/marine industry.
  • Must obtain and maintain NATO secret security clearance.
  • In-depth knowledge of product certification testing to civilian and military standards.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and ability to analyze and solve hardware problems.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite and SharePoint.
  • Working knowledge of peripheral equipment, test, diagnostic, and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to thrive as a leader and member of a Project team.
  • Organized, able to handle multiple projects, and prioritize workload.
  • Experience implementing shipbuilding codes and standards, such as Lloyds Rules.
  • Ability to lead design in a strategic manner, taking into consideration reliability, ease of manufacture, and cost.
