The Job Summary:
The Physiotherapist will assess and administer treatment, carrying out specific physiotherapy procedures upon referral by a physician. They will maintain patient assessments, progress reports, and statistical records, ensuring quality care and adherence to departmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, direct, review, and evaluate patient treatment upon request from the referring physician.
- Administer treatment and carry out specific physiotherapy procedures.
- Maintain patient progress reports and statistical records.
- Advise referring physicians on physiotherapy assessment and progress in patient treatment.
- Liaise with other healthcare disciplines and community agencies involved in patient care.
- Participate in team conferences, presentations, educational seminars, and departmental programs.
- Plan client discharge in conjunction with other team members or agencies.
- Ensure safe working practices and conditions through compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Assist in maintaining safe equipment.
- Comply with patient safety programs and processes, including identifying and reporting adverse events/near misses.
- Attend and participate in safety training or education updates.
- Identify unsafe conditions or practices and take appropriate action to address them.
- Develop and implement a physiotherapy treatment plan for adults and older adults with orthopedic, neurological, cardiac, post-surgical, and complex medical needs.
- Contribute to a transparent culture of client and staff safety by adhering to patient and staff safety policies and procedures.
- Promote an environment that encourages and supports change using change leadership theory.
- Report unusual occurrences and incidents promptly to the manager.
- Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned by the Manager of the department.
Qualifications:
- B.Sc. degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent (Registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario).
- Member in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Superior communication and clinical reasoning skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing demands and schedules.
- Caring and compassionate in all interactions with patients and families.
- Preferred experience in delivering physiotherapy services for the geriatric population in an integrated care setting, preferably in Inpatient Rehabilitation or Hospital.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills as relates to patient care.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong customer service philosophy.
- Self-directed, seeking direction appropriately.
