About the Role

GATX Rail Canada is seeking a highly skilled Railcar Inspector (m/f) to join our team. As a Railcar Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of railcars to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine and non-periodic inspections of railcars to identify any defects or damage.

  • Perform Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and prework activities to facilitate the inspection process.

  • Prepare accurate and detailed estimates of all necessary repairs to meet customer, regulatory, and company expectations.

  • Select the appropriate material for the repair and estimation process using SAP, MMS, MRP, Tails database, and other relevant tools.

  • Create adds-on and/or supplements by ensuring the proper selection of materials and considering technical notices, improvement orders, and maintenance instructions.

  • Complete all required documentation to ensure accurate billing and communication of completed repairs.

  • Ensure car files are well organized.

  • Calibrate and maintain all gauges at the facility.

Requirements
  • High school diploma coupled with 2-5 years of experience in inspection, railcar repair, or connected activities.

  • Knowledge of technical instructions, improvement orders, and maintenance instructions.

  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, procedures, instructions, etc.

  • Ability to communicate details of car estimates verbally and in handwriting.

  • Knowledge of AAR, FRA, and GATX car maintenance standards is a plus.

  • Computer knowledge-based.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to bend over for long periods of time and regularly move from a kneeling to standing position.

  • Must be able to work at heights for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 50 pounds from the ground.

  • Must be able to push and pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at great heights.

  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments (cold or hot).

  • Must be able to physically enter confined spaces and work in closed environments.
