About the Role

BMT Canada is seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join our team in Marine Engineering. As a key member of our Design and Engineering Services (DES) team, you will play a critical role in managing activities and delivering projects within our market area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of experienced engineers on a long-term deployment at one of our overseas client sites.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams to support client taskings and deliver high-quality engineering design and analysis advice.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and exceeding expectations.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with project statements of work and relevant quality procedures.
  • Utilize knowledge of domain-specific standards, including IMO regulations, Class Society rules, and Canadian Forces Technical Orders, to support client requirements.
  • Provide Technical Assurance (TA) of design deliverables or provide guidance and advice to others performing these activities.
  • As the technical lead, oversee the technical team, analyze briefs, write progress reports, deliver presentations to stakeholders, identify risks, and develop work schedules.
  • Lead by example, contributing to the objectives and direction of the DES Business Area, and supporting the decisions of the management team.
About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a strong background in marine engineering. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in a marine engineering environment.
  • Eligibility for a Canadian security clearance.
  • Experience within complex maritime design programs.
  • Experience leading teams within a maritime design program.
  • An understanding of standards for government and commercial vessels.
  • Experience in systems integration, ship construction, and/or repair, including development of engineering change/modification specifications.
  • Experience in major ship construction programs.
  • Experience working in the Defence industry, preferably in shipbuilding or ship repair.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite of projects (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Task Boards, Teams).
  • Ability to manage and lead peers without direct authority.
  • Ability to influence and earn the respect of clients.
