Job Title: Architectural Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Architectural Technologist to join our Building Science team in Peterborough, ON.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of architectural and engineering fundamentals, with a focus on building systems, including structure, building enclosures, mechanical and electrical systems, roofing systems, interior elements, and site features.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct building and property condition assessments for due diligence and capital planning purposes, adhering to ASTM standards and UniFormat.
  • Review and complete assessments of existing buildings and structures to determine design and remedial work options.
  • Conduct invasive building assessments and testing, including roof cut tests and water/leak tests.
  • Develop designs and specifications for restoration projects.
  • Carry out construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are achieved.
  • Prepare written reports of findings, summarizing and interpreting field data and creating detailed AutoCAD drawings.
  • Financial involvement and coordination with project.
  • Maintain QA/QC protocols and health and safety protocols.
Requirements:
  • Architectural Technician/Civil Engineering Technologist/Construction Technician/Science diploma, B.A. or B.Sc. in Architecture, B.Sc. in Building Science.
  • Knowledge of building condition assessments in accordance with ASTM Designation: E 2018 – 15 Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process.
  • Familiarity with UniFormat and asset management software.
  • Experience with building construction or maintenance preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and building envelope assemblies preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code required.
  • Ability to read technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Experience writing technical reports preferred.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD preferred.
  • Ability to safely transport and carry 20-foot extension or folding ladder, hand tools, and PPE required.
  • Availability to travel and valid driver's license, insurance, and personal vehicle required.
