Job Title: Hourly Paid Teacher of English

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced English language teacher to join our team at the British Council in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English language instruction to students of various ages and proficiency levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching English as a foreign language, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to different teaching environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English language lessons that cater to the needs of diverse student groups.
  • Monitor student progress, provide regular feedback, and promote learner autonomy.
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services.
  • Ensure teaching meets Teaching Excellence Standards and reflects the British Council's Statement of Approach.
  • Utilize technology during lessons when required.
  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Develop lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students' understanding of the contemporary UK.
  • Assist in covering classes for colleagues.
  • Engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning.
  • Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service.

Requirements:

  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL or recognized equivalent qualification.
  • High proficiency in English (CEFR C2).
  • Undergraduate/University degree.
  • Experience in teaching adults (400+ hours).
  • Comfortable and willing to teach across different age groups (especially 4-6 and 7-11).
  • Proven experience teaching online.
  • Willing to teach both online and face-to-face.
  • Willing to teach evenings and possibly weekends.

Working Conditions:

The successful applicant will be self-employed and will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of autonomy.
