Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Community Recreation & Cultural Programs department is seeking a qualified Arts Instructor to join our team. As an Arts Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching and evaluating creative children's introductory to intermediate instructional programs in theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and multi-media arts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality arts programs for children of various ages and skill levels
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and implement arts programming
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment

Requirements

  • Completion of 2 years of university/college in Fine Arts or Art History, and/or Education in one or more of the following arts disciplines: theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, or multi-media arts
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing and/or teaching in a related arts discipline
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training
  • High Five training courses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with all ages in an arts instructional setting
  • Excellent knowledge of interpretive techniques, of aesthetic and technical concepts, and of handling of program materials in discipline of instruction
  • Working knowledge of general registration and visitor procedures
  • Working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and of corporate/ departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety
