Comprehensive Psychiatric Care Physician

We are seeking a highly skilled Comprehensive Psychiatric Care Physician to join our team at Homewood Health Centre in Guelph. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with colleagues, and contribute to the development of evidence-based treatments.
About the RoleThis is a full-time opportunity for a Psychiatrist to work in our Assessment and Stabilization & Comprehensive Psychiatric Care units. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical psychiatric care to patients, including admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, referral, daily care, and discharge.
You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team, including nursing, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, music therapy, and horticulture therapy, to provide comprehensive care to patients.
Key Responsibilities- Clinically responsible for assigned patients, including admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, referral, daily care, and discharge
- Provide ongoing supervision and management of clinical/patient care, including daily rounds and individual assessments to ensure standards of patient care are met
- Collaborate with other physicians, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to provide optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary team
- Complete documentation, including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes, and discharge summary
- Utilize electronic medical platforms, such as Caseworks and BDM (training provided)
- Provide clinical guidance to the program and admitting department for referrals and admissions
- Ensure best practice standards of clinical care are implemented and maintained
- Support colleagues with patient coverage during physician absences (with NP support)
- Complete and submit OHIP billings in a timely manner
We require a specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College, and be in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Experience with diagnosis and management of complex psychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders is preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to create exceptional relationships with clients, patients, customers, negotiate and influence, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A working knowledge of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a welcomed asset.
