Job Description

Foiling the challenges of data management requires a skilled professional who can harness the power of Vertica database technology. As a Vertica DBA, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal design and deployment of databases, leading application development and support teams, and providing technical support for database processing and data access.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance Services
    • Create and maintain Vertica database environments for application testing, pre-production verification, and production operation.
    • Provide technical support for database processing, data access, performance tuning, and database recovery.
    • Perform analysis required to resolve complex technical issues/problems.
  • Design Services
    • Provide skilled counsel in the technical design of applications.
    • Ensure optimum use of software facilities and features; walk through critical components.
    • With senior staff, make decisions on data placement and strategic/tactical software, addressing business-specific objectives in the context of RBC technology strategies.
    • Transform logical data models into physical database structures via standard processes. Provide data modelling assistance, as required.
    • Participate in the architecture review process for development projects. Be accountable for adherence to standards and policies; escalate non-conformance.
    • Serve as the technical lead for projects of short duration.
  • Infrastructure Services
    • Research, analyze and make recommendations on software/utility usage.
    • With senior staff, assess the impact of software upgrades and other environmental changes. Communicate, coordinate and implement application modifications as required.
    • Participate in the development and review of standards, guidelines and processes.
    • Seek productivity, quality and efficiency through tools and procedures.

Extensive knowledge of the Vertica database software and its architecture is essential to ensure sound and efficient running of applications using the platform. The ability to build and upgrade the Vertica database environments with appropriate knowledge of system and OS settings for optimal SQL performance is also required.
