About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance & Security Coordinator to join our team at the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT). As a key member of our facilities team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of our buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide building maintenance services, including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems, to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for employees, visitors, and assets.
  • Undertake efficient and preventive maintenance practices to minimize downtime and optimize facility operations.
  • Perform administrative duties, including maintaining logs and certification records related to mechanical and life safety equipment.
  • Organize daily and seasonal work of contract interior cleaning and exterior building service providers.
  • Repair or replace facility equipment and components, utilizing a broad knowledge of building materials and safety protocols.
  • Respond to student/employee inquiries and equipment alarms, formulating corrective actions to maintain safe facility operations.
  • Purchase order coordination, including distribution to vendors, creation of purchase orders, and ensuring established procedures are followed.
  • Create and maintain electronic floor layout diagrams in collaboration with relevant personnel.
Health and Safety
  • Ensure emergency and life safety equipment is operational by assisting with inspections and testing.
  • Contribute to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by participating in or attending SIIT committees and meetings as required.
  • Assist with the implementation of SIIT's security/safety standards and policies.
  • Respond to health and safety concerns and take appropriate action to address issues.
  • Communicate with contractors, building owners, and other parties to resolve problems impacting public health, fire safety, and structural sufficiency within SIIT facilities.
  • Maintain physical and electronic records and issue reports of inspections, including action taken and recommendations.
Security and Compliance
  • Assist in the development of security procedures and programs.
  • Assist and support all sites in the execution of emergency response exercises (notification, evacuation drills, fire scenarios, and security threats, etc.).
  • Respond to emergencies and security issues, ensuring adequate preparedness to respond to and mitigate risks.
  • Assist with the installation and operation of security equipment and alarm systems.
  • Monitor security industry best practices by researching and identifying new technologies, equipment, and materials.
Requirements

A diploma or certification related to commercial building maintenance and operations is required, with preference given to candidates with 5 or more years' experience. A valid Firemen's Certificate, Health & Safety credentials, and trades-related training are considered assets. A combination of education and experience may be considered. The incumbent must be in good physical condition to perform a variety of manual activities. Knowledge of First Nations culture and organization is an asset. A reliable vehicle and valid driver's license are required for travel.

This position is considered safety-sensitive, and the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
