About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Superintendent to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Correctional Services division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth daily operations of our correctional facilities.

Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing the deployment of captains and front-line staff, providing direction on admissions and discharge, warrant interpretation, and program delivery. You will also be responsible for liaising with external agencies, including Sheriff Services and policing agencies, and communicating reportable incidents to senior management.

In addition, you will be responsible for human resource-related functions, including effective management of Assistant Deputy Superintendents, captains, and front-line staff, training, labour relations, recruitment and staffing, attendance management, and performance management.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of correctional facility operations, including safety and security, case management, adjudications, crisis management, human resource management, and quality assurance and risk management.

We are looking for a candidate with a University Degree in a related field and a minimum of seven years of experience in a correctional facility, with at least five years at the management level. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Corrections Act, the Criminal Code, and the OH&S Act, is also an asset.

As a Deputy Superintendent, you will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead by example, motivate and inspire others, and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
