The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations at Rutgers University has a diverse range of responsibilities, including institutional strategic initiatives and operations, encompassing an extensive array of comprehensive services and business operations across the State of New Jersey.
This role requires a skilled individual who can work independently in a designated zone, reporting directly to a second-level supervisor. The mechanic will be responsible for providing guidance and instruction to other staff members on refrigeration and air conditioning duties required for all University Housing facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complex tasks related to refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment, including assembly, installation, and repair of condensers, controls, fan motors, and compressors.
- Fabricate and install ductwork, replace filters, clean and lubricate equipment, and requisition additional materials and parts.
- Install piping associated with HVAC equipment, locate power sources, and may install wiring and/or insulate systems.
- Identify faulty equipment and report conditions to the supervisor.
Requirements:
- High school/vocational school or equivalent plus four years of experience in performing repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment.
- Completion of an approved training course or certified apprenticeship program in the craft, plus two years of experience may substitute for the above experience.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Proof of certification as required by Section 608 of the Clean Air Act revisions of 1990.
- Valid driver's license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Competence in performing complex and varied repair and maintenance of refrigerating and air conditioning systems.
- Good communication skills, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and ability to read technical manuals and blueprints.
