Guidance Counselor

Blyth Academy is seeking a qualified Guidance Counselor to join our team. As a Guidance Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in achieving their academic and personal goals.
Key Responsibilities:- Counsel students in secondary course selection and post-secondary applications
- Support students and parents in the post-secondary application process
- Manage Ontario University Applications (OUAC) and Ontario College Applications (OCAS)
- Assist students interested in international post-secondary applications
- Work with teachers and parents to support students
- Oversee the application of Student Support Plans
- Undertake guidance administrative work, such as report cards and transcripts
- Assist with admissions, interviews, and follow-up as needed
- Assist with Academy presentations and parent-teacher interviews
- Compile a list of community resources for students and recommend as needed
- Discuss opportunities for studying abroad or academic exchanges with partner schools
- Follow up on attendance and late issues with students and parents
- Oversee community service and extra-curricular programs for students
- College diploma or university degree (strongly preferred)
- Minimum of two years' experience in a secondary school Guidance role (strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with OSSD and university program requirements (including EQAO, OUAC, ONSIS, OSR, inspection, competitions, etc.) (strongly preferred)
- Understanding of OSR management regulations (creating, transfer, closing, maintenance) (strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with Trevlac, Edsby, and attendance management systems (strongly preferred)
- Knowledge of NCAA with regard to hockey (strongly preferred)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, multitasking environment
- Previous experience with international students highly preferred
- Excellent use of Microsoft Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Highly organized and able to multitask efficiently
- Diplomatic, resilient, and adaptable to shifting priorities
- Empathetic and dedicated to students' well-being
- Openness to diversity and willingness to effectively manage and foster a positive environment
- Goal and service-oriented, actively looking for ways to assist and implement new ideas
- Able and available to conduct family tours at campus
- Provide in-person support for on- and off-campus recruitment events, info sessions, and presentations
- Support campus aesthetics improvements (observations/recommendations)
- Support central marketing in gathering student testimonials, program information, or other content
