About the Role:

The University of Toronto is looking for a skilled Data Architect to join the MedIT team. As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing data strategies that meet the needs of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Architectural Direction: Provide expert-level guidance on data strategy, data processes, and data assets across the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
  • Data Framework Development: Design and implement a robust, scalable, secure, and sustainable data framework to maximize integration opportunities across all Temerty Medicine and Central IT platforms.
  • Data Governance: Develop and sustain enterprise data governance policies and standards to ensure data access, accuracy, flow, traceability, classification, compliance, consistency, retention, storage, integrity, and security throughout all data platforms.
  • Data Modeling: Create, design, review, transform, deploy, and develop data models and data roadmaps to meet current and future needs of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
  • Technical Leadership: Act as a technical lead by leading and planning IT projects, including defining requirements and scope of complex projects with broad impact and long-term consequences.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish a close working relationship with Central IT while actively evaluating current and future technology offerings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum Years of Experience: Minimum eight years of experience working as a database administrator and ETL developer.
  • Technical Skills: Experience working with both RDBMS (Microsoft SQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and query performance tuning on SQL Server, MySQL, and Azure/AWS platforms.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communications skills at both a technical and business level, able to build and foster positive relationships with highly dispersed and dynamic teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data Cloud Solutions: Experience with data cloud solutions such as Microsoft Azure – Data Lake, Data Factory, Data Bricks, or similar.
  • SharePoint Experience: Experience with SharePoint site collection administration and development.
  • Power Platform Experience: Experience with Power Platform and integration with enterprise-grade database for reporting.
  • TOGAF Certification: TOGAF (or similar architecture methodology) certification.
  • Project Management: Experience with project management, including defining requirements and scope of complex projects and conducting project costing, scheduling, and resourcing.
