The Conductor role at CPKC is a foundational position within the railway, operating within the framework of the union agreement. As a member of a train crew, you will assist in switching rail cars, making or splitting up trains in rail yards, or moving rail cars between rail yards.

This role requires vigilance about safety and preparedness for unscheduled shift work, extended periods away from home, and working outdoors in all types of weather.

Career growth opportunities exist as a Yard Foreperson, Locomotive Engineer, or management positions.

Responsibilities
  • Work in either train or yard service depending on seniority
  • Carry out specific instructions detailing a train's route and movements
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), general orders, and bulletins

Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding work, including walking up to 10 kilometers a day on uneven ground, climbing, lifting, and pulling heavy objects.
