Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Distribution Engineer to join our team at Electricenergyonline. As a key member of our Capital Investment Planning team, you will play a critical role in developing long-term system renewal strategies and plans for distribution assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement long-term system renewal strategies and plans for distribution assets, including justification and business cases for prudent and effective capital investments.
  • Support and contribute to regulatory filing and applications to the Ontario Energy Board, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Assess and mitigate risks to distribution assets performance and failure, considering financial, environmental, reputational, safety, capacity, and compliance implications.
  • Develop and propose risk mitigation solutions proportionate to the probability and impact of identified risks.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure customer priorities, needs, and requirements are met and understood.
  • Support the development of a capital investment portfolio to address present and future system needs, including capacity, sustainment, reliability, and long-term asset planning for distribution and station assets.
  • Implement and oversee cross-functional processes/systems required to capture, verify, and analyze asset attributes and asset performance.
  • Perform engineering and technical asset management studies and distribution system plans, considering traditional and emerging solutions.
  • Conduct system-level and distribution circuit-level analysis for loading, voltage, power quality, short circuit, reliability, balancing, and coordination.
  • Investigate and analyze distribution system and asset performance to identify root cause issues and propose methods to improve performance.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of capital projects and operating programs to provide operational effectiveness and reliable and sustainable system performance.
  • Develop and submit detailed and justifiable business cases related to short and long-term capital and operational expenditures.
  • Prepare comprehensive written reports, plans, and presentations for senior management consideration, providing recommendations and sensitivity analysis of options and alternative solutions.
  • Design and implement systems to increase monitoring, analytics, and business intelligence capabilities to support operational effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on initiatives, operational activities, programs, projects, and studies related to distribution system planning, regional planning, emerging technologies, reliability, and asset sustainment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or recognized equivalent.
  • Eligibility for licensure as an Engineer with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) with a clear path to the P.Eng. designation.
  • Experience in Electrical Distribution Utilities or the electricity sector and unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Previous co-op and internships in the utilities sector is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, governmental, and environmental requirements (OEB Rules and Regulations, PIPEDA, OH&S, EUSA Rules, WHMIS, and TDG Act).
  • Knowledge of technical and safety specifications/standards including CSA, CEA, and Ontario Regulation 22/04, Utility Work Protection Code.
  • Strong knowledge of Project Management methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of computer software programs such as CYME, ETAP, PSS/E, AutoCAD, ESRI GIS/Intergraph GIS, Alteryx, CopperLeaf C55, JD Edwards is an asset.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information in an organized and concise way.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Valid class "G" driver's license.
