The City of Mississauga is seeking a skilled Labourer to join our team. As a Labourer, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of our city's infrastructure. This includes cleaning and maintaining sidewalks, streets, roads, and grounds, as well as operating heavy equipment such as power trimmers, blowers, and snow blowers.
Duties and Responsibilities- Work as a member of a crew to clean and maintain sidewalks, streets, roads, and grounds.
- Sweep and shovel snow from streets, sidewalks, and grounds, and load snow and debris into carts or trucks.
- Dig ditches and trenches, operate power trimmers, and load/unload/move supplies and equipment.
- Assist heavy equipment operators to secure equipment attachments, guide and signal heavy equipment operators, and assist with routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Comply with legislative requirements, collective agreements, and city policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Exposure to a variety of weather conditions, noise, vibration, and unpleasant smells.
- Exposure to concrete, asphalt, dust, and flying particles.
- Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of lifting, pulling, and carrying heavy objects, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and exposure to asphalt, concrete, and dust.
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 1-2 years of previous experience/knowledge related to the construction industry.
- Experience in the use of related construction equipment.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's license with a driving record in good standing and acceptable to the City.
- Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, customer service, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Must demonstrate and act in accordance with the City's Corporate Values of Trust, Quality, and Excellence.
- Must demonstrate effective leadership skills to act as a Lead hand.
- Strives for continuous improvement through innovation and enhancement of processes.
- Excellent time management skills to effectively prioritize and organize work.
- Ability to exercise critical thinking, independent judgment, and make sound decisions.
- Accepts and follows directions from others and complies with requests and respects authority.
- Previous related experience in any sector is valued.
- To advance to the interview stage, the applicant must achieve a score of 65% or above on a practical assessment.
