Job Description

The successful candidate will work with our specialized geomorphology team, which uses a science-based approach to protect, maintain, restore, and improve fluvial and coastal systems. This role is suitable for a Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) who has strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and present technical information and reports.
  • Conduct corridor and crossing studies to identify risks from natural hazards.
  • Support stream restoration projects based on channel processes.
  • Collect field data and synthesize it for further analysis.
  • Work with spatial information, including digital topographic data and aerial imagery.
  • Assist in monitoring studies and coordinate construction implementation of channel restoration designs.
  • Travel for field programs as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • A degree in Physical Geography, Geomorphology, River Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, or equivalent education.
  • Ability to acquire a Professional Geoscientist ( accreditation in Geomorphology or Professional Engineering license in the Province of Ontario).
  • Demonstrated scientific skills in areas such as field data collection, river mechanics, sediment transport, geomorphic processes, and hydraulics.
  • Experience in water resources, environmental geoscience, biogeography, aquatic sciences, and ecological sciences is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with digital cartography (GIS), airphoto interpretation/manipulation, and field surveys (total station, RTK) is also an asset.
  • Strong communication skills with a proven track record of presenting clearly and promoting understanding through verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • AutoCAD or hydraulic model software experience would be an asset.
  • A valid G driver's license is required.
Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
