Core Network Specialist – Wireless

This role is part of the Digital Infrastructure portfolio, responsible for designing, operating, and maintaining the university's wireless network infrastructure.

The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring the financial and technological sustainability of our digital infrastructure while driving innovation and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, deploy, and maintain the campus-wide University wireless network infrastructure.
  • Support other members of the Digital Networks and Data Center Services (DNDCS) team in the design, operation, and maintenance of the Campus Area Network infrastructure.
  • Provide design services to deploy wireless network services across the whole campus.
  • Address emerging issues that arise during the deployment and continuing operation of the network.
  • Interact with various end-user supporting groups to investigate problems relating to the wireless network.
  • Continuously investigate new technologies which may affect the operation of the wireless network or be used to expand its capabilities.
  • Manage interaction with contractors who will implement cabling and hardware services for wireless deployment.
  • Work with wireless associated services and devices to determine institutional suitability and requirements for support.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in computing science, engineering, or equivalent experience in design and operation of large-scale wireless networks.
  • Wireless networking certifications including but not limited to Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Enterprise, Certified Wireless Design Professional (CWDP).
  • Training and experience in large and advanced network operation and design is essential.
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center management platform for managing wireless infrastructure.
  • Experience with the suite of Cisco Wireless products in the design, deployment, and management of wireless networks in a campus environment.
  • Experience with Ekahau wireless survey and design tools for the creation and validation of wireless deployment plans in large multi-story buildings.
  • An advanced experience and understanding of Network protocols (wired and wireless) and related standards.
  • Experience with Eduroam wireless roaming access service.
  • Experience with design/deployment/support of point to point wireless infrastructure.
  • In-depth network troubleshooting techniques.
  • Comfort working with multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS, Android.
