As a Senior Tax Specialist - Corporate Income Tax, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of tax provisions, tax projections, and tax returns for our organization.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and Review Tax Filings
- Prepare tax returns, income tax projections, and tax provisions by reviewing prior years' returns and working papers, analyzing financial information, and meeting with team members across the organization.
- Review Canadian tax provisions prepared by portfolio property accountants by analyzing financial statement information and tax provisions as supplied.
- Identify Tax Planning Opportunities
- Identify tax planning opportunities and process enhancements through the preparation of tax returns, income tax projections, and tax provisions.
- Assist with Tax Research and Compliance
- Research and assist on issues, as assigned, by examining specific tax legislation and court decisions and relevant publications to identify available options and determine recommended tax treatment.
- Assist in providing responses to governmental and external auditors as required.
- Develop and Communicate Technical Tax Expertise
- Develop and communicate technical tax expertise by monitoring current developments in technical journals, conferences, legislation, and tax administration.
- Recommend revisions of existing practices to ensure tax compliance efforts maximize tax savings and efficiencies on a company-wide basis.
- Improve Departmental Information Flows
- Develop and improve departmental information flows by analyzing information requirements and sources and seeking efficiencies in processes to improve overall value of the function.
- Education
- A University Degree - Business related major.
- Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in corporate income tax (exposure to Real Estate/Property Management an asset).
- Skills and Knowledge
- A solid knowledge of income tax law and administration, financial accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of commodity tax law and administration (would be an asset).
