Job Title: Operating Room Nurse - Cardiac Unit
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Operating Room Nurse to join our Cardiac Unit team at PHSA. As a Registered Nurse in this role, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care in accordance with ORNAC standards and collaborating with other members of the interprofessional healthcare team to provide family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan direct care for patients by reviewing patient/family history, developing care plans, and meeting with healthcare teams to discuss and review care plans.
- Provide direct patient care in accordance with ORNAC standards and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide family-centered care.
- Maintain patient records by collecting and documenting information, including healthcare information, nursing observations, and interventions.
- Participate in the orientation and continuing education of new learners on the interprofessional care team, adhering to ORNAC standards.
- Contribute to the healthcare team through participating in rounds, committees, and professional practice groups.
- Provide input on policies, procedures, and operational requirements that address patient and family needs and promote effective resource use, while maintaining ORNAC standards.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by following ORNAC standards and established emergency procedures.
- Promote the implementation and evaluation of nursing research and quality improvement initiatives by participating in interprofessional committees.
- Perform other professionally related duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives.
- Successful completion of a post-graduate program in Operating Room Nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
- CPR Training - Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) - Level I.
- Current PALS certification.
- At least one (1) year of operating room experience is required.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to relate effectively with patients and their families.
- Ability to participate as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism, and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments.
