Job Summary

Mackenzie Health is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our Pathology department as a Grossing Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for grossing biopsy specimens in a timely manner, handling different types of biopsies, and completing gross dictations accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process specimens and document procedures and results
  • Maintain, stock, and clean the working area
  • Ensure positive patient identification for each specimen container
  • Handle different types of specimens efficiently with attention to detail
  • Collect and handle small tissue fragments with accuracy and care
  • Efficiently complete gross dictation and document pertinent information
  • Troubleshoot incidents relating to missing tissue or other specimen concerns
  • Organize and file empty specimen containers
  • Set up laboratory equipment for daily use

Requirements

  • Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) General Diploma from a recognized school of Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Successful completion of certification exams for general registration from CSMLS
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • At least one year of grossing experience in a clinical pathology laboratory setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of current Pathology MLT hospital work experience
  • Previous experience using Dragon Voice Recognition is an asset
