Job Summary

Memorial University is seeking a skilled Animal Care Specialist to join our team in Animal Care and Veterinary Resources. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to laboratory research animals, ensuring their health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clean feed, bedding, and enrichment for animals, including swine and rodent species
  • Perform routine animal cage change and swine room cleaning, and enrichment procedures
  • Evaluate animals daily for normal/abnormal status and report any problems to the Veterinarian
  • Assist Clinical or Senior Technical staff with animal handling and restraint, dependent upon experience
  • Maintain and submit required written records, charts, logs, and inventories
  • Perform routine facility sanitation procedures of all functional work areas according to sanitation standards

Requirements

  • Experience (1-3 years) in feeding and caring for animals in a laboratory or clinical environment
  • Completion of a veterinary technology or assistant program, or any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. and work in a laboratory animal environment
