Job Summary:

Under the clinical supervision and direction of the anesthesiologist, the Anesthesia Assistant functions as a member of an integrated surgical team by providing technical support and clinical assistance with all phases of anesthesia. The AA will administer medical gases, medications, blood, or blood products, and crystalloid or colloid solutions. Perform and/or initiate various invasive/non-invasive monitoring techniques and blood tests, interpret results, evaluate patient's response to interventions, and adjust parameters accordingly. Assist with nerve block placement and assessment. Perform mechanical ventilation management and internal transport of ventilated and/or anesthetized patients. Communicate effectively and in coordination with the surgeon, surgical team, and anesthesiologist. Participate in education or orientation of medical personnel, staff, and students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer medical gases, medications, blood, or blood products, and crystalloid or colloid solutions

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an accredited post-graduate Anesthesia Assistant Program. Active registration with the applicable regulatory body. Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) membership with Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant (CCAA) designation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three (3) or more years of recent experience as an Anesthesia Assistant is an asset. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
